raja ravi varma painting : saree features
I will showcase some of the Raja Ravi Verma’s paintings, first to show the beauty of the painting and secondly to show some historical context to the current saree designs.
Most of the paintings were done in 1870-1905, so the paintings give a sense of saree designs at that time.
Here is a reproduction of one of his painting.
There must be a religious significance to the green bangles (wasn’t there a movie called Hare Kanch ki Chuddiya - green glass bangles). A light saree with bright blouse and a very thin border on the saree are nice.
