On the bicycle in Pondicherry

NYTimes has a nice article on Pondicherry today and the saree pictures above caught my attention.

The quote that I liked ‘there is not much to see in Pondicherry, but there is a lot to feel”.

I hope the woman in the first picture has a saree guard attached to her bicycle.

Leave a comment if you have ridden a bicycle while wearing a saree!

Queen Mukharji in a pink saree

I don’t remember seeing the queen of saree (so true that they call her Rani) in this pink saree.

This concept of plain saree but a fabulous blouse design fits nicely with my philosophy of slight asymmetry in the design adding great depth and freshness to the outfit.

Here the cuts are symmetric, but the embellishments are asymmetric between the saree and the blouse.

Innovative saree display ads

prospective of saree

Love the way this picture looks! An interesting way of presenting the design of the pallu.

We do need innovative ways of showing off saree; some retailers do a better job than others.

I also understand that in favor of eye-candy, you are sacrificing clarity. For example, it is not clear how the blouse looks and what intricacies there are on the blouse design. I agree, but there are places to show of the details of the saree and there are places to show off the dream of the saree.

Different placement, different clientel, different target and hence the ads have to be different too.

Sarees are a big business and that has helped provide resources to make gorgeous saree ads.

Saree Petticoat

I have always maintained that the petticoat is one of the most under appreciated part of the saree ensemble.

I am hoping that this decade will see some innovation in the petticoat design to make it more versatile and more comfortable.

Priyanka Chopra color coordinated to the hilt

Priyanka Chopra scintillates in black and silver. Her sari, as well as every accessory is perfectly coordinated - it is almost too perfect!

The sari is a black net with an embroidered border, and sprinkled with the slightest hint of silver sequins. The blouse is heavily beaded in black and silver with pretty beaded spaghetti straps. The black and silver metallic choker has strings of hanging beads. The churis are color coordinated with an interesting mix of patterns and textures. The bindi and the silver nails - with black dots of course - completes the theme.

This design will work well if your saree has only two or three primary colors.

Something sweet about this saree

sweet_saree

The colors are very subtle and let the beauty of the woman shine through. The jewelry goes well, mainly because the blouse is a non-descript, standard blouse with muted colors.

But the combination of jewelry, glowing face and sweet earth tone saree looks great!
