Wendell Rodricks’ not so tranquil not so beautiful saree
I like Wendell’s designs; I really do. I enjoy and accentuate slight asymmetry in the cuts and designs and he has mastered that art.
His latest design is called “tranquil beauty”; I think it is tranquil for sure but it is tranquil because it is not beautiful.

This reminds of not so infrequent and failed attempt by a film director to shoot in black and white, not because there is any underlying reason for it, but because in his mind, he thinks that b&w image will push his film in to some sort of “high art” - what ends up happening is that the product becomes boring and drab, nothing else. His 2007 Lakme collection left a lot to be desired too.
I see the pallu and its intricacies, but, sigh, pure white with silver and no jewelry makes for cloistered and dispassionate offering!
Lets compare it with some of his earlier work:

Vow, I adore the colors, the discrete design and my favorite, the arm cutout for a saree - Now thats what I call a cutting edge of design.
