From Meera Mahadevia bags that befit beautiful saris

Meera Mahadevia started out designing clothing but quickly realized that what was needed was authentic and beautiful accessories to go with the exotic saris. So she started designing bags, shoes and belts that offset you the essence of Indian clothes, with a hint of contemporary styling.

A khadi print bag and belt from the Meera Mahadevia collection are heavily embellished with bead work and topped off with bold semi- precious stones to draw attention to the accessories. Of course, we would have preferred it if the ensemble had included an equally beautiful sari, but the ornaments set against the backdrop of the bikini and wrap worn by the model has a certain exotic appeal!

Notable saree b/c of the blouse design

This is not the greatest of the sarees, but what caught my eye was the blouse design. It always interests me to see the elements that the designer picks up from the saree to carry it to the blouse.

Here it seems that the diamonds of the Saree borders are carried forward to the appliqués on the blouse. The color of the blouse matches the large squares on the saree and the trimming of the blouse matches with the primary color of the saree. Not bad!

Anand Kabra’s fascinating and exotic saree ensemble : Re-View Collection 2008

This is one exotic ensemble. It is exotic because it is kind of hard to combine some of the elements that he is trying to use.

So it is a traditional saree, with shirt and a jacket with special way of gathering the saree to pass through the jacket buttons. I’ll look at it some more and let you know if there are any elements need special care.

The collection is called Re-view and I see that re-view in this design for sure.

Anand Kabra is a designer based in Hayward. A fan of this site sent me one of his designs a while ago. They were all interesting sarees, but the one that I liked got my attention because of the hairstyle of the model, and not in a good way.

Oh well, as I say, everything is fair in war and love and on the runsays.

A classic Manish Malhotra design. I wouldn’t say that this is my favorite, he has done some great work, and hopefully I will show you some of it soon.

Yellow saree, intriguing blouse

yellow_saree_polka_blouse

I am intrigued by this blouse design. Is this a “real blouse” or is it a “fashion/bollywood” blouse?

At times, for a photo shoot or something, one would take a blouse and modify it just enough to create a special look. Like, take a regular blouse, and put a bikini top on top of it..

I don’t think that is the case here. Click on it for a better view and you will see that the polka dot bikini is integrated in to the design of the blouse.

Interesting look, skimpy, without being actually skimpy.

Filmfare 58 saree spotting

I am not very fond of sarees with large geometrical structures on it; you never know what part it will end up accentuating.

But I do like the color combination, sort of like a fuzzy peach, fresh, soft and gentle and the silver blouse goes well with the embellishments on the saree as well.

Also seems that the makeup is chosen to go well with the saree color, and thats great. The woman looks great!

Wordless Wednesday

Every Wednesday we let the sarees do the talking.

And for this one, I really wished it could tell me the full story or context behind this picture. It is Neha Dhupia from Julie.
