Wordless Wednesday - Saree

cover_me-saree

On Wednesdays, we let the saree do all the talking.

Can you hear this one?

Golden touch from Maxim - classy but not sexy

golden_saree_maxim

There is a “sexy” saree,  and it is sexy because of the design of the saree; and there is a “faux sexy” saree, which is “sexy” because the model is exposing more of her endowments. This is a faux sexy saree.

It is from Maxim, a magazine dedicated to celebrating sexuality, but their concept of sexy seems to be, “lets show some more skin”.

Now, lets remove the sexy part out of it, and view this saree. It is a gorgeous saree, elegant, party wear, to show off classic theme. There is a splash of color in the blouse, but nothing that is out of ordinary. All in all, a conservative, rich piece.

Jashn 2008 saree with bold print

I love the colors and the boldness of these prints. It connotes certain exuberance and has certain “see me soar” quality to it.

The backdrop of male models ogling doesn’t hurt the presentation either.

sarees that make a woman look fat

Yup, that happens! If you don’t do it right, like in this example. If that happens, chances are it is not draped right.

Golden Yellow saree with heavy border

golden_yellow_saree

A very classical/traditional golden yellow saree with stone work. The border has stone studded design which adds subtle color to the saree. Click on it to see it in further detail.

To me, this is a very “dated” saree. but that shouldn’t take away anything from the beauty of it. About $700, if you must know the price.

Sari with Lycra fiber - Deepika Govind’s designs.

Found this on Lycra.com

So just as the West’s leading fashion houses work to develop garments with LYCRA, now India’s top designers have sparked a fashion revolution by introducing LYCRA fiber into their latest sari ranges.

Taking inspiration from both East and West, the new range of saris was created by Deepika Govind using a number of different LYCRA-blend fabrics including cotton, lame and silk.

The saris have six advantages over traditional garments, thanks to their use of ground-breaking Sensitive fabric with LYCRA fiber made by Eurojersey:

1 Greater comfort – the fabric now stretches in two-directions thanks to the innovative use of LYCRA fiber;

2 Less material - saris can be made with only 4.5 yards of fabric compared to the usual 6 yards;

3 Lighter weight – thanks to Sensitive fabric with LYCRA, saris are now half the weight and drape more easily;

4 Improved breathability – ideal for warmer climates;

5 Quick drying – with easycare status, fabrics are easy to wash and dry quicker than traditional fabrics;

6 Enhanced colours – Sensitive fabric has a completely uniform surface, resulting in colour enhancement and high-definition yield for prints; it also provides endless creative possibilities for inserts and creative edgings.

Additional benefits, found in certain garments across the range, include anti-bacterial properties, as well as anti-UV and chlorine resistant capabilities, making them ideal for climates with round-the-year warmer weather.

I like the color enhancement part but got turned off by 4.5 yards comment. I don’t mind fusion, but don’t bastardize it, please. If you want to make it 4.5 yards, just go make a dress instead.

Deepika shouldn’t have let this happen - if it is already lighter, why do you further need to reduce the length.

Its like going to a peacock and saying, hey, I have something that will enhance the color of the feathers- great, I have something that will be lighter - great, and I have something that will make the the feathers less dense - NOT OK.

Shabana Azmi’s fugly saree

shabana_azmi_saree

I used to love Shabana and then she had too much botox injected. She looks constantly surprised. This is what happens when you go to a cheap cosmetic surgeon.

And then on top of it, this saree is awful; first of all there are four contrasting colors that don’t play nice with each other. The pallu has two competing bright color borders, which disturbs the balance of the saree; a 3/4 length blouse with the broad band looks really odd and as if this litney wasn’t enough, the violet fumes that are leaking out near the feet (is that a part of the petticoat? hope not) is hurting my eyes. I am not even going to talk about the attempt to give this a half saree look by different texture near the pleats!

There is only ONE word that captures everything about this saree - this saree is FUGLY.

I compare her to Rekha (they are both contemporaries) and see how grace ful Rekha looks.

Shabana needs to know her limit of pushing the design envelope and stay with in her boundaries of fashion sense.

Susini Salu sarees : interesting for sure!

susini_salu_saree

I wished I had a better view of the sarees, but mikey like what mikey see!

I am always interested in “different” saree designs; it takes a lot of effort to get out of the mold and do something creative.

Here is another example:

srilanaka saree

Some of you might say that this is not really a saree; I would like to withdold judgment on that issue for now.
