For the uninitiated, the Odel store at no. 05 Alexandra Road, Colombo 7 is more than a store. Set inside a massive former colonial residence, the store offers everything men’s and women’s wear to home furnishings and a dedicated section for “nature and souvenirs”. Spanning several well-adorned floors, the store is cutting edge retail therapy for Colombo’s discerningly fashionable and even a tourist attraction.

Odel offers a Lifestyle! Otara says, “I have always strived to position the Odel store in much the same way as Harrods of London or C.K. Tangs in Singapore. One doesn’t go to such outlets with a specific aim of buying a particular thing. You go there for an experience. And you know that you will always get products that are unique, and are of extremely high quality”.

Saree with pocket was introduce in India last year. I have not seen one in person yet, but the idea sounds interesting.

In fact, people have said in jest that the reason men dominate some of the major sphers of human endeavors is because men have pockets and women don’t. So this presumably levels the field for desi women in saree!

Hand painted multicolor georgette saree having resham, zardosi, french knots stones work and animal, butterfly print with european rose motifs and rich pallu along with matching blouse.

I really like the rich colors of this saree. It might look a bit busy from the picture but the depth and the richness of the colors shines through.

I like the color combination and the print but something is missing when you see the big picture and I am sure when you will see this in person, you probably would not pick it.

It is a elegant design but it is trying to act beyond its reach.
